There's an official soil type named after Newport County — literally called the "Newport" soil series. It was first identified right here in Middletown, and it's the well-drained, loamy soil found across the rolling hills of Aquidneck Island and the East Bay.

Our soil isn't just dirt. It's part of what makes this place this place.
