FAQ

  • Elizabeth Brook and its surrounding habitat face several environmental challenges, including bank erosion, invasive species, accumulated trash and debris, poor water quality, and flooding concerns. The project is exploring restoration approaches that can improve the health and resilience of the Brook and surrounding ecosystems.

  • Potential strategies include stabilizing eroding streambanks, restoring portions of the floodplain with native vegetation, and creating shellfish habitat. These approaches are being evaluated as restoration planning progresses.

  • Project partners are using information gathered through field assessments, elevation surveys, water-level monitoring, and evaluations of existing wetlands and coastal features to understand current conditions. This information will help determine which restoration approaches are most appropriate for the project area.

  • Restoration efforts could help reduce erosion, improve water quality, enhance native plant and wildlife habitat, and strengthen the Brook’s ability to manage changing environmental conditions. The project also seeks to support a healthier and more resilient watershed for the surrounding community.
